A Simple Way to Pray When Anxiety Hits
Hey friend,
Anxiety does not wait for a convenient time. It shows up on the drive to work, at 2am, in the middle of an ordinary day. If you have ever tried to pray through it and ended up more tangled in your thoughts than before, you are not alone. The CDC reports that about 1 in 8 U.S. adults regularly deal with this.
Philippians 4:6-7 gives a real process, not just a command to "stop worrying." Here is what it actually looks like:
1
Name the anxiety specifically. Not "help me not be anxious," but the actual thing that is weighing on you. |
2
Give thanks, even in the middle of it. Not pretending it is fine, but naming something true about God right now. |
3
Ask for what you actually need. Be specific. God is not put off by your real requests. |
Here is what that can sound like
"God, I am anxious about [the specific thing]. I thank You that You have been with me through every hard thing before this one. I am asking You for a calm mind and peace, no matter what happens. Remind me I am not facing this alone."
The promise is not that the anxiety disappears instantly. It is peace that guards your heart even while things are still unresolved.
